Day 49

I finished up the Steamboat Trace today. It took me right along the Missouri River. Last year the river flooded much of the area I road through today. They are still working on the trail, but it is passable with a little riding through sand and branches.

Rode out of NE again and into Kansas. In this heat I am trying to keep the miles around 60. I hung out in White Cloud for a couple hours, reading and sitting in the shade by the post office. After a while I went to eat dinner at the city park where it is ok to camp.

While at the park "Wolf River" Bob came by to chat. He started the White Cloud Historical Society. He drove me up to his property he has been working on since 1974. He has had a few weddings there and when the smaller trees are cut down, 4 states can be seen from his place. From there we went to the 4 state lookout above the city. When it is not smokey the 4 states you see are IA, KS, NE, and MO. It was a good time talking with Bob. He showed me, and had me sign his guest books that he started in California in 1964.

Miles 58, total 2400, avg 11.5, max 32.1, time 5.03
